U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday he was considering lowering tariffs on Chinese imports from 145% to 80%, signaling a potential change of tone before high-level U.S.-China economic talks in Switzerland this weekend.
Posting on his social media platform, Trump wrote that an 80% tariff “seems right,” adding that the final decision would depend on how Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent handles the negotiations. “Up to Scott B.,” he wrote.
