It is with tremendous broken hearts to announce our father Mauricio Loustaunau, 79, passed away at home on Monday March 10, 2025.
He lived a full and vibrant life from beginning to end and touched the lives of so many. Mauricio is survived by his adoring wife Giuseppina, son Marcelo, daughter Gabriela (George)and family and friends here and in Uruguay.
Born February 1946 in Montevideo, Uruguay, his first job at 14 was working in a bakery where his passion for the industry was sparked. He married his beautiful wife Giuseppina March 2,1968 and welcomed their son Marcelo in 1969. Mauricio had a vision of moving his family to explore a better life in Canada.
In 1969 he came to Canada - Guelph Ontario - as a landed immigrant. The following year he welcomed his daughter Gabriela in 1970.
Some of the places he worked at was West End Bakery to University of Guelph where he became known for his breads, cakes and pastries. He participated in a national competition for Pastry Chefs where he won 1st in breads and 2nd in cakes. He also had the pleasure of meeting the late John Candy and Princess Anne – for whom he made a cake and received a letter from her thanking him. Despite his success he remained humble and grounded, touching countless hearts and minds.
Through dedication and sacrifice he built a very successful career as a Pastry Chef using his passion to create beautiful master pieces that we all had a pleasure tasting - from his mouth-watering cakes, pastries and breads to his amazing dishes. He will be forever remembered for his unconditional love for his family and friends here and in Uruguay.
Life’s simple pleasures brought him the greatest joy – tending to his flowers, vegetables and fruit garden, listening to music, dancing, making wine and enjoyed countless hours sitting outdoors interacting with nature.
The family holds wonderful memories of his timeless stories that made us laugh to the core. He had a heart of pure gold, touching lives through countless small kindnesses – helping anyone in need without ever expecting anything in return.
Though his heart stopped his legacy lives on in the values he instilled – integrity, compassion, and unwavering love for family. Within each of us remains a piece of his incredible spirit, reminding us to face life’s challenges with courage and grace, just as he did until the very end.
His passing will leave a void on our lives and hole in our hearts. He will truly be missed, but never forgotten. Your love, your laughter, and your spirit will forever be part of us. Rest in peace.
Friends will be received on Thursday, March 20 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St. Guelph.
