In Kazakhstan, for the first time since gaining independence, geological exploration work on rare-earth metals (yttrium, ytterbium) has been launched in 2017 under the state order.

Chairman of the Board of JSC Kazgeology Galim Nurzhanov announced about this during a briefing at the Investment and Development Ministry of Kazakhstan Nov.22.

He said that the work is conducted in 16 major ore provinces.

"So far, some 5.5 running kilometers of search routes, 5,500 running kilometers of mine workings were carried out, 3,400 running meters have been drilled. The volume of the completed work is worth 244 million tenge, in 2018 the figure will be 259 million tenge, "Nurzhanov said.

Upon completion of the work, an assessment of the prospects of the selected sites will be made and a program on further work will be prepared.

High-tech companies from South Korea and Japan will also get involved in working at the promising areas.

Currently, Kazakhstan is actively implementing a policy to attract world leaders in the field of geological exploration. Thanks to this work, the country gets access to world technologies and know-how in geological prospecting, which allow conducting subsoil surveys at big depths and in a short time.

"Kazgeology" plans in the next two years to double investment indicators - up to $ 100 million.

The official exchange rate for November 22 is 330.29 KZT / USD.
