Trevor Larnach stays hot, Christian Chamberlain wins in debut as Oregon State baseball tops Gonzaga

Trevor Larnach homered again and Christian Chamberlain pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings in his collegiate debut to lead the No. 2 Oregon State Beavers to a 4-3 victory against Gonzaga on Saturday in Surprise, Arizona.

Larnach's solo shot to left broke a 2-2 tie in the eighth inning, and the Beavers (2-0) added an insurance run on Andy Armstrong's hit that brought in Preston Jones. Zak Taylor also hit a home run in the OSU win.

In eight at-bats so far this season, Larnach has reached base seven times, with four hits and three walks, including two homers, a double and three RBIs.

Gonzaga pulled within a run in the ninth inning when Jake Vieth scored on Jake Mulholland's wild pitch, but Mulholland got a fly out to center and a strikeout to end the game and record his first save of the season.

Chamberlain came on for starter Sam Tweedt in the fifth inning and notched his first win. Tweedt gave up three hits and two runs in 4 1/3 innings.

The Beavers are batting .297 as a team, with seven extra-base hits. Meanwhile, OSU's pitching staff has given up just one extra-base hit.

Oregon State next faces Cal Poly at noon Sunday as the College Baseball Classic in Surprise, Arizona, continues.
